Baptistery of Bach and the church of Luther: main church St. Georgen.

If the walls could talk, they would have a lot to tell: Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia, Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach are as closely connected to the main Protestant church of St. Georgen as Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Pachelbel.

Johann Sebastian Bach's baptistery was founded at the end of the 12th century by Ludwig III. In this church, the 14-year-old Hungarian king's daughter Elisabeth married Ludwig IV. Martin Luther sang here as a student in the choir and later preached in the church, shortly before he was taken to the Wartburg Castle for his protection. For more than 132 years, in the baptistery of Johann Sebastian Bach, members of his family played music on the organ bench. The Wartburg festival of the fraternities in 1817 was held from here, as were the prayers for peace in 1989. Visit a place of worship that is closely linked to the development and eventful history of the town of Eisenach. Look forward to your visit in the Georgenkirche.
